On the heels of a phenomenal '23 summer: Catholic Heart Work Camp & World Youth Day in Portugal, the JWJ youth ministry program is embarking on an incredible journey this upcoming year and beyond. The theme for 2023-24 is based on the message of Pope Francis at WYD 23: "MAKE ROOM!"
2024 is gonna be LIT!
2023-24 promises to be a year of maturation and growth in many ways. Spiritually, we will set our community, our country and our world on fire with that "Crazy Americanos" attitude we are known for worldwide: relentless energy, service to all and deepening our individual lives through unique and innovative ministry.
OUR SUMMERS WILL BE BUSY, ADVENTUROUS, AND LIFE CHANGING! Beginning with our World Youth Day Trip to Portugal in 2023 and ending with our World Youth Day Trip to South Korea in 2027, this 5 year span will be EPIC as we share our one-of-a-kind frenzied faith with the whole of our country and world!
ADRIANA LULGJURAJ is an English Education major at Michigan State University. In her youth group days, she traveled the country doing service work and leading retreats for teens. She was a Vacation Bible School icon! Her fiery spirit is contagious and will electrify the masses gathered for World Youth Day 2023.
JENNY DIBLEY is a biomedical laboratory science and pre med major at M.S.U. She loved catechism as a child and taught classes as a teen. Her favorite memories of Youth Group were mission trips. She is ever-grateful to God for helping her find her path in life. She will be joyously sharing that exuberant faith with the world next summer.
This past summer we traveled to Lisbon, Portugal to attend mass with the Pope and 1.5 million other Catholic youth from all around the world!
We THANK YOU for your support and for keeping us in your prayers!
If you feel called to sponsor our upcoming events, contact Michael Novak.
As you see above, we are Macomb Unido. We have 5 people from St. Lawrence and 5 people from St. Jane/St. Rene going on the pilgrimage. This will be my 7th WYD as a leader, my son's first as a leader, but 2nd overall. This picture is of my son and I arriving in Poland for WYD in 2016. Everyone else joining our group will be experiencing WYD for the first time. I cannot wait to see how much fun they have. Here is a little bit about our trip...
We are leaving from Chicago on July 23!
We have a 12 hour layover in London on July 24. We will take time to explore the city!
Late July 24th evening, we arrive in Lisbon, Portugal for our first stint. We will settle into the city, learn the layout, and visit Fatima before the crowds arrive!
July 26th we head up to northern Portugal to Guarda! This will be our home until the 31st! Here we will have a more personal experience. We will be staying with people from other countries, attending a lot of fun events, and even participating in service projects. Oh, and we cant forget, exploring the incredible nature that Guarda has to offer.
Yes, you read that right, we are going to Spain! On our way back to Lisbon, we decided why not add in another stop. Madrid it is!
Now for the main event! We will be back in Lisbon, Portugal until August 8th! This time there will be a lot more people, 2-3 million more people! We will get to meet people from all over the world and have mass with the Pope, TWICE!
August 9th we will finally be back home. Exhausted...Fired up...Smelly...Excited! There are so many emotions you feel after World Youth Day. I'll never forget how excited I was to share my time at WYD in Poland!
August 27th from 4-7pm we will have a party in the St. Lawrence Social Hall for all of our sponsors, and anyone who wants to learn about our trip! We will all be excited to share our experiences.
18 day trip. We will visit 3 capital cities, London, Lisbon, and Madrid. We will see mass with the Pope twice. We will be with 2-3 million other Catholics from all over the world. We can't wait to share our trip with you on August 27th!
